Become A Legacy Society Member
Waterfront Village has created a Legacy Society, led by our Founding Member Harlow Pease, who has designated a bequest of $20,000.
With a Planned Gift You Can
- Sponsor the development of cultural and educational programs that combat social isolationism.
- Pay for a volunteer’s training, background check and yearly insurance.
- Support Waterfront Village’s extensive member services such as check-ins, transportation, health and nutrition programs.
- In concert with the other District of Columbia Villages, champion advocacy to promote positive changes for D.C.’s senior citizens.
- Support those who cannot afford the membership, but need the services.
In Honor or Memory
We also welcome a gift in honor of or in memory of someone. Honoring a special person in your life and at the same time supporting a cause that’s important to you is another way to support the sustainability of Waterfront Village. Often in a death notice people will ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a specific organization that he or she cherishes. You might consider such a request as you make your own plans.
We are offering an opportunity to you, our supporters, to help ensure that Waterfront Village will be here for years to come. We are looking for long-term sustainability to continue our work. We believe it is vitally important that we continue to help the residents of the Southwest Waterfront and Navy Yard choose how to age and have the resources to do so.
What is Planned Giving?
Planned Giving integrates your charitable gift with your overall financial, tax and estate planning goals to maximize your benefits.
Planned Giving is the act of making a commitment to give a charitable organization a major gift over time or at death as part of your overall financial and estate planning. It can range from a bequest made in a will to gift annuities and charitable trusts. Please consult your own adviser when making estate or financial plans.
Bequests in your will reduce estate taxes and provide a legacy of support for Waterfront Village. A bequest can easily be established. To leave a percentage of your estate or a specific amount to Waterfront Village, you can simply state the amount in your will or living trust. Waterfront Village can provide you with sample language.
Charitable Trusts can be designed to meet your needs. Funded by cash or securities, a charitable trust can provide income to you for retirement, education expenses or other needs and give a gift to our organization.
Insurance Policy Life Settlements are options when your life insurance policy is well more than needed for your death expenses, and you would like the excess coverage converted into cash or a gift to the Village. We can put you in touch with a state-approved life insurance settlement company for more information. They will, in turn, refer you to a qualified broker for the transaction if you wish to move forward.
At the present time, we are not authorized to administer Charitable Gift Annuities.
If we can be of more help as you consider these options, please feel free to contact Executive Director Bob Craycraft at 202-656-1834 firstname.lastname@example.org, or speak with your financial planner.
Waterfront Village is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit organization with the IRS and all gifts are tax-deductible.
Waterfront Village has been awarded the 2019 Seal of Transparency by GuideStar, the first Washington, D.C., senior village to achieve this designation. Learn More
