The FBWE Village art series continues with Fanchon Silberstein exploring what art reveals about how its makers see our world. “Make Sense of the Senseless” is the title of a chapter revealing ways that personal and cultural values are embodied in images, some of which were made at times of loss and healing. Fanchon will discuss some of the images pictured in the chapter and then open the conversation to all who attend. She looks forward to your questions and insights.

Fanchon Jean Silberstein is a writer, teacher, and trainer who has presented art and culture workshops around the world.

2:00 - 3:00pm
This group meets the second Sunday of each month virtually via Zoom (phone or video option)

Curious about us? We would love to meet you!

Thanks to COVID-19, Caregiving looks very different.

Under any circumstances, caregiving is different for everyone. Some of us provide direct care, some help manage a team of paid caregivers (locally or remotely), some of us provide emotional or physical support.
Some of us wish we had a team, but aren‘t able to assemble one.

Whether your loved one lives across the country, around the block, or with you in your home, we are here to support you.
Our loved ones have diverse needs, diagnoses, and symptoms. What we have in common is our shared sense of love and responsibility for a close friend or family member.

We welcome you to join us in a confidential, peer-lead community space where we can share challenges, delights, expectations, and frustrations as a group.

*Please Note: This meeting is for caregivers only. If you are unable to find a quiet place to meet in your home, please contact Samantha at 202-543-1778 or sschiffman@capitolhillvillage.org to discuss options.

Please register below.

This event will feature a photographic presentation by Dr. Lynn Cates. Her photos are inspired by shinrin-yoku, the Japanese art of forest bathing. It is based on the premise that being immersed in the atmosphere of the forest improves well-being. More information on that event and how to register can be found here. The full description is below.

"Dr. Lynn Cates‘ photographic presentation is inspired by shinrin-yoku, the Japanese art of forest bathing. It is based on the premise that being immersed in the atmosphere of the forest improves well-being. Forests instill a sense of peace, calm, joy, and wonder. These images were selected because they distill the chaos of the forest down to its essence. These are the kinds of scenes that evoke the feelings you can experience when you take the time to be still and quiet and welcome all that surrounds you in the forest. Dr. Cates will take you through redwood forests in northern California, along DC‘s Capital Crescent Trail, and will end with a collage of forest scenes from across America."
