Known as the "Cradle of the Emancipation Proclamation," the Cottage is where Abraham Lincoln lived with his family at the height of the Civil War. Opened to the public for the first time in 2008 after being restored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Located on a picturesque hilltop between Petworth and Brookland in Northwest DC. Guided tours of the Cottage focus less on the building and more on Lincoln's ideas, offering visitors an intimate view of his presidency and private life.
