Village Member and Tiber Island Resident Steve Livengood will lead Villagers and their guests on a VIP Historian’s Tour of the United States Capitol.  Mr. Livengood is the Chief Guide of the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, a private not-for-profit organization chartered by the United States Congress to develop enhanced experiences related to the history of the Capitol Building and the institutions that have been housed there.  This experience will take place in the familiar public rooms, but your experience will be interpreted with historical background on the meaning of activities and artworks in the building as the unfolding of representative democracy.  You will see familiar things from a deeper perspective.

Mr. Livengood began giving tours of the Capitol for his Member of Congress in 1965.  He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The American University (1968) and a Master of Arts in Recent U.S. History from Emory University (1973).  He has worked in various capacities in the political and policy circles in Washington, culminating in his work for the Capitol Historical Society since 1994.  He has been given the Tourism Industry Award by the Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington DC for his work in promoting the interpretation of the Capitol building by professional city guides.
