Legacy Society

The Waterfront Village has created a Legacy Society, led by our Founding member Harlow Pease, who has designated a bequest of $20,000. Your participation in the Legacy Society ensures that the Waterfront Village will continue to serve the community for years to come! Consider giving a gift in honor or memory of a friend or loved one.

What is Planned Giving?

Planned giving is the act of pledging a major gift over time or at death as a part of your overall financial and estate planning. It can range from a bequest in your will to gift annuities and charitable trusts. Planned giving intergrates your charitable donation with your overall financial, tax, and estate planning goals to maximize your benefits. Several pathways are listed below; please consult your own advisor when making financial decisions.

  • Bequests will reduce estate taxes and are easy to establish; you can state an amount or specific percentage of your estate to go to the will or living trust
  • Charitable trusts are funded cash or securities and can provide income to you while also giving a gift to our organization.
  • Insurance Policy life settlements may provide excess coverage that can be converted into a gift. Contact your insurance company for more information; a qualitifed broker would assist with this transaction.
  • IRAs are an easy way to give; simply request a beneficiary form from the institution that manages your IRA and add Waterfront Village as a beneficiary

Benefits of Planned Giving

These gifts can be used to support volunteer screening and training, provide for new and enriching programs for volunteers, or can allow the Waterfront Village to provide membership subsidies so that all residents of Southwest DC can be a part of the Village!
